A man who contaminated candy with sedative and provided them to children at a youth camp in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual offenses against two young males who were nine and 10.

The elderly man, from that region, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the judicial center on recently.

'Candy game'

Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, detailed the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.

She said his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a youth camp which he ran.

Ruben conducted a "sweet game" with the minors, the prosecutor stated, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to eat sweets "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings the man had conducted this practice with the children "for many years", and youngsters had previously become sick the following morning.

She said the defendant had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had suspicions in recently.

The prosecutor stated further: "This year his family member had worries about the activities, with valid cause.

"They chose" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

Mrs Prior KC said objects including lubricant, petroleum jelly and syringes were discovered, and his stepchild notified the law enforcement about his worries.

She stated the man continued to play the "sweet game" with six youngsters that night - that Saturday - and they were all ill the following morning.

"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that time," she added.

The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the situation.

The prosecutor stated the children were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the family member notified the authorities again.

She stated the man then played the "sweet game" in a area of five minors.
